The department of Basic Sciences & humanities was founded in the year 1998 right from the day of inception of the college. Presently, the department has developed to a very matured department consisting of 17 faculties and 7 staff members. At the moment department has 6 assistant professors, 7 senior lecturers and 4 lecturers. The department altogether offers 25 courses to all the graduate engineering programs involving the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Humanities and various multidisciplinary subjects including courses in Management, Finance And Production Engineering. The department also hosts six very spacious & sophisticated laboratories in Engineering Physics, Engineering Chemistry, Mechanical Workshop, Thermal Power Engineering Laboratory, Engineering Graphics Hall, State-Of –The Art English Language Laboratory and a Well Equipped Research Laboratory.

The faculty and staff members of the department are highly qualified and dedicated in the pursuit of sharing knowledge with the students on a continuous basis. The department also hosts a large number of experienced faculty members who are alumni of very esteemed institutes such as IITs, JU, BESU. A number of them are university rank holders, highest ranking researcher as awarded by DST and other awards given by several other national bodies. Some of the faculties are also reviewer of international journals of repute. Apart from teaching, the department also boasts of sponsored research programs by national sponsoring agency such DST, AICTE, and UGC. The department as a whole, in this short existence has conducted very successful National Workshops sponsored by AICTE, DST and WBP
