The Department of Electrical Engineering has been an integral part of the College of Engineering & Management, Kolaghat, since its inception in September 1998. The department currently has 12 faculty members and 7 technical supporting staff. The major areas of interest of the faculty include Control system, Power system, Electrical Machines and Power Electronics. The various state of the art laboratories are Basic Electrical Engineering Laboratory, Electrical Measurement Laboratory, Power Electronics & Drive Laboratory, Electrical Machine Laboratory, Power System Laboratory, Control System Laboratory and Circuit & Network Laboratory. Facilities for simulation studies with licensed software are available, and students make a thorough use of such facilities. The department makes every endeavor to improve the laboratory infrastructure and facilities. The department runs B.Tech program in Electrical Engineering in the affiliation of West Bengal of University of Technology. The current student strength is 256. Over the past three years the faculty of the department published more than 25 papers in various International/National Journals/Conference Proceedings. The department carried out investigation projects on availability based tariff, generator fault studies and minimization of auxiliary power consumption in collaboration with Eastern Regional Load Dispatch Center (ERLDC) and Kolaghat Thermal Power Station. Besides, the department also undertook a development project for Electronic Ballast with Premier Electrical & Electronic Company, Kolkata.The department also conducted one short term training programme for 2 week-duration and hosted a national seminar on recent advances in power system and power electronics with the IEE(UK), Kolkata Branch. With the available resources the department makes all out efforts to impart training to the students to make them disciplined, competent and motivated Engineers.
